Fabric ATCs

fabricTrans1Sml

fabricTrans2Sml

I have been playing with a few transfer techniques in order to get digital images onto fabric. The lady on the left (Mata Hara) was printed onto T shirt transfer paper then the image transferred to plain calico by heat transfer (craft iron). The lady to
the right (lady with rose) was printed onto inkjet printable acetate then the image transferred onto Gel medium which had been painted onto the plain calico. As I wanted both images to have a slightly worn look I added a grunge border (Jessica Prague’s) before printing. The T shirt transfer material can also be distressed a little if you tear (carefully) rather than cutting the image out and you can add a bit more distress by scraping bits away with your thumb nail. The acetate transfer came out very dark so in future I will remember to brighten the image before printing. Also the more pressure you use to burnish the image the more the ink smudges. The images used are from Art-e-zine

CBC June ATC swap – Shaker ATCs

shakerSml

Here are my two ATCs for the June swap over at CBC. As I am the host for this month it was my choice for the theme so I thought it would be a nice change to make shaker ATCs. The one on the left is using two little note-lets from the British Red Cross (the image is of a Voluntary Aid Detachment nurse in a garden: artist Arthur J. Lyons). The inside has lavender flowers and a few TuTu bedazzles. The flower stems are covered in flower soft.
The seaside ATC was made using Sarah Lugg Beach Comber collage paper and has a mixture of sand and a little glitter inside. I added sand all around the edges too.

Mucha ATCs for CBC swap May

muchaStonesSml
The ATC swap for May over at CBC is the letter ‘M’ so I have chosen Mucha. Here are topaz and amethyst (from his precious stones and flowers prints).

Note to self: it is very difficult to glue the acetate on top of something that you have put distress stickles on, even with diamond glaze!

Inks: Brilliance graphite black, Stazon black
Card: ivory card, acetate to overlay
Stamps: Mucha stamps (can’t remember who does them), Technique Tuesday Borderline – Bijou borders
Other: water colour pencils, Distress stickles Rock candy and antique linen, Diamond glaze, gems, Adirondack butterscotch colour wash, Glimmer mist cherry limeade, Cosmic shimmer mist angel mist

ATC swap Altered photos

alteredPhotosCopSml

My ATCs for this months CBC swap are altered via my PC rather than stamping so I made use of a couple of great tutorials I found over on Jessica Prague’s blog. I hardly ever do digital stuff so I never remember how I got the results. I press keys and add layers then every now and again I get some nice results that I can never emulate.
Harry took the photo of the Forth railway bridge and I added the grunge frame from Jessica’s site and altered the RGB balance. The edges were further distressed physically.
The poppy photo is a result of me playing around with the macro facility on my camera along with Jessica’s tutorial on how to get the text to look like it is behind a petal. This one has a small border and corners added digitally too.

CBC swap ATCs – postal theme

postalSml

Here are my two swaps for the CBC ATC swap for February. I picked the theme as I am hosting it so I chose ‘Postal’. I made the first one to look like a small bundle of manilla letters wrapped in string with a shrink plastic label saying urgent.
The second one is vellum with images of letters on it stamped with the phrase ‘spoken words fly away but written words last forever’. This was layered onto Basildon Bond paper which I had highlighted the watermark and tinted slightly. The addition of the feather (quill) also ties in with the words ‘fly away’.

Inks: black document ink, Distress ink Tea dye, Archival ink Coffee, Stazon Red
Card: brown paper, printed vellum, Basildon bond writing paper
Stamps: The Artistic Stamper Ephemera, Phrase stamp unknown origin
Other: stamp image, string, shrink plastic, feather (owl?)

ukstampers March ATC swap

We are doing the ukstampers March swap a little early and the theme this time is rip and tear (basically distressing) so for two of my ATCs I have used ripped tissue paper and ripped napkin and the 3rd one uses distressed embossing powder for the tiny frame. We also had to make an arch to swap. I have never made an arch before so this is my first attempt. I spent ages on it and am quite pleased with the result so I hope the recipient likes it as much as I do.

Black and White ATCs

Happy New Year!
I wish you all the very best for this coming year and I would like to thank you for all your comments you have been kind enough to leave over the past year. I get inspiration from visiting other crafter’s blogs so I hope in sharing my crafty work (and my mistakes) that my blog gives some inspiration and tips to others too.

This is the my first blog entry of 2010. It is soooo cold just now and my craft room is the coldest room in the house so I haven’t been doing much in it recently.

Here are my 3 ATCs for the ukstampers swap – this month’s theme is black and white with a twist: the twist being that we have to make a tag too. Now I have just kept to the black and white theme for my tag and there is also a floral thing going on in them all too (not intentional at all!). The doll ATC was inspired by Gail Milburn’s article in the Craft stamper mag Feb 2010 issue.

ATC swap theme Distressed

Here are my three ATCs for the ukstampers November swap with the theme of Distressed. The first one is based around nature, the second ATC has an image of an Oriental vase which I distressed using crackle glaze and the third may look familiar to some of you as I used the same photo, of a rusty piece of metal, and same techniques that I used for a previous tag.
