Printer’s drawer project

drawer1sml

Well now I think this project will keep me busy for a while!
My very kind and dear friends John and Lizzie gave me this printer’s drawer that they found while on holiday to do with what ever I please.  I will have to give it a bit of a clean up to get some of the old paint, oil and metal dust off first. I am still undecided if I want to keep all the spaces as they are or to cut out some of them to make slightly larger areas. Decision making has never been my strong point.
I will keep you posted on how I get on with this one.

CBC swap ATCs – postal theme

postalSml

Here are my two swaps for the CBC ATC swap for February. I picked the theme as I am hosting it so I chose ‘Postal’. I made the first one to look like a small bundle of manilla letters wrapped in string with a shrink plastic label saying urgent.
The second one is vellum with images of letters on it stamped with the phrase ‘spoken words fly away but written words last forever’. This was layered onto Basildon Bond paper which I had highlighted the watermark and tinted slightly. The addition of the feather (quill) also ties in with the words ‘fly away’.

Inks: black document ink, Distress ink Tea dye, Archival ink Coffee, Stazon Red
Card: brown paper, printed vellum, Basildon bond writing paper
Stamps: The Artistic Stamper Ephemera, Phrase stamp unknown origin
Other: stamp image, string, shrink plastic, feather (owl?)

Valentine card

Hello butterfly scrapbook page

Irene Tan has very kindly given her permission for us to use her beautiful scrapbook page  to scraplift for our crop’s February scraplift challenge over at ukscrappers. Check out her fabulous blog – she is very talented and shares her ideas and tutorials. You will find this original page under 100%concentration in October 2009 with her description of how she put it all together.

I love all of this page: the colours, the layout, the bling, the photo…..all of it! I kept the colours and some of the general layout, I used mostly stamps rather than rub-ons (only 1 rub-on in the corner of my photo), I used some bling and butterflies, added one bloom but left out the lace and some of the smaller flowers and I didn’t rip my photo.
Here is my scraplift version- Ceara has just had a butterfly land on her nose!
The other butterflies were made using the napkin technique onto acetate and cut out which means they maintain a fragile look and you can see the colour of the background through them.

ukstampers March ATC swap

We are doing the ukstampers March swap a little early and the theme this time is rip and tear (basically distressing) so for two of my ATCs I have used ripped tissue paper and ripped napkin and the 3rd one uses distressed embossing powder for the tiny frame. We also had to make an arch to swap. I have never made an arch before so this is my first attempt. I spent ages on it and am quite pleased with the result so I hope the recipient likes it as much as I do.

Week 3 on ukstampers challenge asks for a tag incorporating a floral stamped image, buttons and some text.
Here is my effort using watercolour paper this week and another form of resist.

Week 2 ukstampers tag challenge

glitterButtonssml

This tag is for last weeks challenge and for this one I had to include any stamped image, glitter and buttons. As you can see I made it all about buttons and I stamped the background on glossy card using the resist technique then for the individual buttons: they were stamped on acetate and glitter added to to the back.

Card: glossy white, acetate
Stamps: free buttons stamp from craft stamper mag ages ago, Technique Tuesday Hanging by a thread
Other: variegated thread, scissors brad, glitter, brayer

A few cards for men.

This month I have half a dozen birthday cards to make and four of them are for men – why is is that I find designing cards for men is so much more difficult than for women?

The greeting was printed out and the compass was an image from the internet printed onto acetate. All the parts move so you can turn the compass dial around the silver brad and you can turn the whole compass to reveal the greeting. Photo doesn’t show up the shiny dial very well.
