This one is for wee Stuart’s birthday. It is a mixture of stamping and zentangle and I added a touch of red too.

Well you would never guess what this started off as….I was trying to do some hot air encaustic cards which I had hoped to would like flowers. I think I managed every mistake possible: too much clear wax, held the heat gun too close and not only did I blow most of the wax off the card but I also managed to make a big bubble on one side. Not to worry I added more colours then just scribbled with the stylus tool and threw some wax to make runs of dots with it too. I cropped the bubble away then used my scribbled abstract for a colourful card.

My great friend Lizzie and I were playing with my encaustic kit the other day and we made a few cards each. I am afraid I don’t have a photo of Lizzie’s but they were very much the same as these.
The colours of wax are all from the starter kit and the card used is the silk coated card (the same as I use for brayering).
I just had to make a card for Peter who was an enormous help repairing and sorting out some medical equipment for me over the last month. I know the NHS is always in the news because they have got something wrong again but just where would I be without the good old NHS. Due to modern technology I have been able to pee by means of electrical impulses sent to the bladder via an external transmitter along with an internal receiver. When the equipment is all working correctly (which it does most of the time) you tend to take it for granted and it is only when things go wrong do you remember just how much you rely on it to go about your daily activities. So many thanks to Peter at Finetech and also to Mr Fraser at the Spinal unit and most importantly to Professor Brindley who came up with the idea for a sacral implant all those years ago.
The inspiration for this card is again from The Craft Stamper magazine, October issue 2011 by Jo Capper-Sandon and it uses the free stamp from that issue.

I have been playing with my encaustic stuff again (after a long while) and made this card for Chris and Grace’s wedding anniversary using the indirect transfer technique with tissue paper. I think this is my favourite technique so far but I do need a lot of practice still. My great pal Lizzie joined me to play with the wax and I might just have got her a new hobby!
The trouble is that I don’t get my encaustic stuff out often enough so I have to go back to the basics each time and practice.

In the March 2012 issue of the Craft stamper magazine Riet van Zundert shows how to use your acrylic block to add colour to your card so I had a go with her technique for Ceara’s birthday card. You basically ink up your acrylic block then swipe away any areas you don’t want colour on. Then use your block like a stamp and press onto your card. I stamped the pink colours first, then added the green to the centre, then stamped the images normally and coloured them in.

For a little something extra I made a steampunk bracelet. It was a kit from John Lewis but I won’t be buying any more as the quality is very poor. The metal is very soft and is a strange colour that is neither silver nor gunmetal colour. Instead of the large metal heart they had in the kit I added a dragonfly in it’s place. Just the addition of a few cogs apparently makes it steampunk….Hmmmm.
I know that Connell likes all the Tim Holtz bits’n’bobs and distressing techniques so I made this card and tag for his birthday.

I love the poem about Granny’s button box so I thought I would try and do a card all about it for my mum’s Mother’s day. I have read a couple of slightly different variations to this and I have altered some of the spelling to how I think it should be (but I am not an expert in the Scott’s language). It reminds me of all the times I have gone through mum’s old recipe books and button box with her and we would reminisce over the contents. It is funny how just a simple button can evoke memories. I remember some of the outfits mum made for me, some I loved and some not so much but I know just how much hard work and love went into making each item. Thank you mum.
For the card I used a Lippy chick Flip book and decorated all of the pages with sewing related stuff. I didn’t really intend it to be quite that brown but I do like the vintage feel that colour gives it. Some of the green colour didn’t really show up due to my poor photography skills.

For John’s birthday card I went for a bit of a steampunk theme. He has written a book and is just waiting for his literary agent to give the go ahead to get it published so I have tried to portray the fact that his writing ideas will take off. There is only a tiny number 60 on the front of the card around the bird’s neck.
