This watercolour is another tutorial from Terry Harrison. I didn’t do very well with the wet-in-wet especially on the barn but I enjoyed painting it. In fact I made quite a few mistakes but hey ho.
Alcohol ink doodles on yupo
I have been getting exasperated with my yupo paper and alcohol inks last week. Sometimes the ink would drop into circular blobs and spread really well but other times I would just get a blob that didn’t spread at all. I see I will have to experiment a bit more. Sometimes I would get a blob that spread in the centre of the paper but if I used the same ink towards the edge then it wouldn’t spread. I was very careful not to touch the edges with my fingers as I know that can prevent the ink spreading. I tried using the reverse side of the yupo but that wasn’t great. This photo isn’t great – the birthday card is much brighter in real life. It was good fun though.
Rusty Dodge
Here is my latest painting from Terry Harrison’s tutorials. This one is of a 1952 Dodge that he spotted on his travels. In real life (his photo) it doesn’t look as rusty as this but he shoes how to get a rusty looking effect.
Remembrance Sunday
The open gate watercolour
This is another Terry Harrison tutorial but I managed to make a rather strange shaped house on this one. I had sketched it out first and somehow thought the line I had sketched in for the tree was the line for the back of the house. I was going to try and lift the colour out but ended up just leaving it as it is.
Riverside cottage watercolour
This is from one of Terry Harrison’s tutorials. There are a few wonky bits on it but hey ho.
Polperro – (more or less) watercolour
A watercolour painting from a Terry Harrison tutorial. I didn’t quite get the colour right in the sky at the left hand side so I tried to make it into a bank of trees across from the harbour.
After the storm watercolour
I like paintings with little boats in them and I am trying to practice sky and sea painting with varying success. This one is from a Terry Harrison tutorial.
Breaking wave watercolour
I have been learning to paint by reading books and doing a few tutorial and this painting is from one of Terry Harrison’s online tutorials. They are good tutorials for beginners as he shows how he mixes his colours and takes you through each step so you can learn different techniques. It still takes practice though to get the techniques right.
