Stampotique birthday card

carey2012sml

This card was inspired by the Craftstamper mag. but it is an amalgamation of a few ideas all of which I have used in various art journal pages but not usually in my cards.  I used acrylic paper as I wanted it to look a bit like canvas but I had to be careful with swiping it with baby wipes as the surface disintegrates.  I maybe should have given it a thin wash of gesso first.
Only one Candle Carey 😉

Inks:  Black India ink, inktense pencils to colour image, copic pen for skin (not good with the India ink though), Acrylic paints: Black, Lime, Moss, Turquoise and White
Card:  acrylic card, white card, turquoise card
Stamps:  Stampotique Karen, Cute companions Patchwork number set 2 (little cup cake), computer generated text
Other:  black pen

Steampunk or industrial birthday card

So I was blog hopping the other day and landed on Kaz’s blog where she did a metal foil covered tag inspired by Tim Holtz.  I have used this technique  a few times previously but had forgotten about it and it was just the reminder I needed for creating Kevin’s card.  It more or less uses the same technique but I added some discs, numbers and magic mesh underneath the aluminium tape to give lots of texture and dimension.  I used paper stumps and embossing tools to smooth the tape gently around these additions and going inside all the little squares made by the mesh.  The text I made using metal stamps.  I have used this kind of technique before but instead of using alcohol inks to colour the metal foil in the recesses of the texture I used black acrylic paint then swiped  some areas away with a baby wipe before it had dried completely.

Inks:  Alcohol inks Pitch black, Stonewashed and Rust
Card:  white, black antiqued metal card
Stamps:  metal alphabet stamps
Other:  Aluminium foil tape, small discs, Ideology: fasteners, washers, and cogs. Hammer, wrench, and keyhole brads, small key charm

My Pass the Painting canvas is finished!

My original canvas has now had another 4 layers put on it.
Rosie added layer 2: string and tissue applied with Matte gel.
Pam layer 3 ?
Lou did layer 4: added the mask and chandelier.
Pauline did layer 5:  changed the colour of the mask from bright blue using napkins, added distress inks, glitter glue and crackle paint.

JackieL1R2Pam3L4P5J6sml

I added a final layer 6: black glitter on the mask edges and string, tucked black mesh behind the eye holes, black gel pen, distress stickles, bits from old jewellery, charms.  I might add some words into the string loops when I think of something.
I love this Pass the Painting  collaboration!

Anniversary card

JohnLiz2012AnnivSml

Another card taken from the Craft stamper mag this time from May 2012 in the stamping contrast section and this particular one is designed by Liesbeth Fidder.  I love the autumn colours in it and again I didn’t change much at all.  I didn’t have the same colours of alcohol inks that Liesbeth used and I preferred a black card rather than the orangey coloured one she used.  I also made my card much more saturated colour.  The green colour you see in this image is more of a teal colour in real life.

Inks:  for the background: Adirondack colorwash Butterscotch spray and Cosmic shimmer Aqua lagoon. Alcohol inks: Butterscotch, Stream, Willow and Mountain Rose with blending solution,  Stazon black and Saddle brown, Stampin up Taken with teal
Card:  watercolour paper, teal pearlised card, glossy white card, black card
Stamps:  Stampin up Just believe and Cheers and wishes
Other:  punchinella (sequin waste), black pen, 3D pads

Anniversary card

RossSuz2012annivSml

I have a few anniversary cards to make for this month plus a few birthday cards so I have been looking through my Craft stamper mag for inspiration and just loved the card  Paula Whittaker made in the August 2012 issue.  I didn’t change much at all:  I kept her overall design but substituted eyelets in place of washers and I used different stamps.  I didn’t add anniversary wishes to this card but I will be making an insert with the Happy Anniversary message.

Inks:  Stazon black, Distress ink Walnut stain
Card:  white card
Stamps:  Crafty Individuals  C1-207
Other:  eyelets, stitching, Tim Holtz filmstrip, yellow highlighter pen

Mixed media name badge

nameBadgeSml

We have a few new members in our Craft (scrapbook) crop and so we were asked to make name badges to help newbies remember who’s who.  Mine is a mixed media one  and it really didn’t look like this in my mind when I started it.  I had quite a few mishaps along the way and this is the result.
Black leather background, gold coloured gauze, white card with stamping, resist and spray (scrap bit from a previous project), eyelets, mixed fibres, dangle from an old necklace,Tim Holtz swivel fasteners and a kilt pin. Name printed using Quilted butterfly font.  Leaf with the micro ladybird is a pin that Ceara gave me a while back and it just happens to go really well here.
I am looking forward to seeing what all the other name badges look like as we have scrappers, jewellery makers, knitters etc in our craft club.
