Stamped fabric card

fabricSquareSml

I had time today for a wee play with some plain calico.  I was inspired by the article by Rachel Jackson in the August issue of Craft Stamper magazine about block printing.  I didn’t have half the stash that she used so I had to improvise but I am pleased with the result and would definitely do this again.

Inks:  Archival Cobalt, Versacraft Autumn leaf and Emerald, Brilliance Moonlight white
Card: ivory card and plain calico
Stamps:  Magenta frond, Flourish (unknown), English Stamp Co. Paisley, free flower stamp from craft stamper mag, text stamp
Other:  Ecoline liquid water colour Scarlet and Chartreuse, Lumière metallic acrylic Sunset Gold. UHU textile colour (not very good) red, sequins, seed beads, flower centre and gold stickles

Anniversary card

Having read the October issue of the Craft Stamper magazine I was reminded of a technique I’ve used before so I used it here for an anniversary card.  Joanne Wardle used similar colours but I have used them vertically instead of horizontally so it is not meant to be a sunset just Autumnal colours.  Although I love trying out new techniques it is nice to re-visit some older ones.

Inks:  Distress inks Barn door and Mustard seed, Memento black
Card:  white silk
Stamps:  Stampin up Cheers and wishes, and Autumn days, swirl
Other:  post it notes to mask

uk stampers weekly challenge tag week 31

Here is week 31 of the ukstampers rolling recipe challenge:

  • dots
  • a form of transport
  • fabric

The image of Betty Boop is fabric; I pasted it too a piece of card and cut away the back ground which was black and red flames.  Her little dog looks 2-toned because the card I pasted it to was a scrap piece which had been previously stamped and this is coming through – woops.  The background denim is stamped, coloured then distressed.  The dots are on the large brad.

Inks:  Adirondak Stonewashed and Denim, Distress inks Black soot and Faded jeans
Card:  white card
Stamps: denim background (unknown)
Other:  small strip of frayed denim, Betty Boop fabric, black and white checked ribbon, large brad, chain, large pewter eyelet

My inspiration for week 29 ukstampers weekly challenge is a copper etched coaster that I had my coffee mug on.  This photo doesn’t show the metallic sheen very well.

The rolling recipe this week is:

  • stamped image of a child
  • dots
  • anything of Tim Holtz

I stamped and embossed the images the swiped over the copper paint.  This didn’t show up the image as much as I would have liked so I then dabbed highlights in Pearl and used a water brush so swish it over certain areas. The dots were stamped around the edges in black, then to make it all look slightly aged I took some sand paper over it.  You may have to look very closely to see the dots.

Inks:  versamark clear embossing ink with clear ambossing powder, Memento black
Card:  black card
Stamps:  A stamp in the hand Field of sky (dots), Joanna Sheen Mainly babies, Stampers Anonymous (Tim Holz collection) Fairytale frenzy
Other:  eyelet, fibre, Acrylic paint dabbers Pearl and Copper

Just in case you can’t tell – the dots are on the butterfly!
Inks:  Memento black, Distress inks Vintage photo and Antique linen

Stamps:  Elisabeth Bell Planting some love (Sugar Nellie), Daisy flutters Aspects of design by Kay Carley
Other:  flower trim, heart eyelet and brown eyelet, lace, water colour pencils to colour, glitter pen for highlights, fibres

uk stampers weekly challenge tag week 27

Week 27 recipe over at ukstampers weekly challenge is:
  • Bunting
  • stamped image of a child
  • sepia

I have tried to depict a child running  from the waves on the beach holding the bunting which is trailing behind her.
The image on the stamp is the girl and some waves so I stamped using the whole stamp first of all then selectively inked up the waves part and stamped repeatedly to make the sea.  I chose not to put in a horizon and to show only the sand and the sea – I’m not quite sure that this worked.

Inks:  Versafine archival vintage sepia, Opalite Glacier blue (you can’t really see it), Distress inks old paper, vintage photo, and brushed corduroy
Stamp:  Joanna Sheen On the beach
Card:  ivory card
Other:  tiny bits of material for the bunting, fibre, shell stickers, water colour pencil for her bathing suit, white pen to add subtle highlights, sandpaper to distress

Male birthday card

I have been having a play with wordle to make this card and it is great fun!  You get a better result if you put in  more words i.e. a paragraph from a poem or song or even a dictionary definition but even just a few words like this greeting with a few embellishments can work. It could make great back ground papers.
Inks:  Distress inks Vintage photo and Walnut stain
Card:  white, brown textured, woodgrain

Other:  brads, image from wordle

Altered Harry with a pigeon scrapbook page.

pinkGrnHarrySml
As some of you may be aware I have been mucking around with printing onto fabric. This is a photograph of Harry in the botanic gardens feeding a pigeon (peanut in his mouth). I altered the colours and made it negative (I think – I altered it so much that I can’t remember what I did!) then printed it onto cotton poplin photo fabric. This was cut out, frayed, tinted around the edge, ironed onto interfacing along with some fusible fibres. I found the self adhesive Fozz felt flower border a real pain to use as the backing paper came off in tiny bits rather than in one piece.
I could probably have just used the freezer paper ironed onto fabric for this as it does not need to be washable but I am just dabbling in new techniques just now.

Here is the original photo:

And this is how it looked on the screen before printing onto fabric:

HfeedingPigeonCol

It looks sooooo bright here but it fades a lot once it is printed.
Inks: green ink for around the fabric border
Card: Doodlebug Pastel plaid, BoBunny My darling cut out and My darling Bella
Other: Cotton poplin photo fabric, iron-on interfacing, fusible fibre, green/gold mesh, Kaisercraft Fozz felt Flower power lime, fabric flower trim

I have been playing with a few transfer techniques in order to get digital images onto fabric. The lady on the left (Mata Hara) was printed onto T shirt transfer paper then the image transferred to plain calico by heat transfer (craft iron). The lady to
the right (lady with rose) was printed onto inkjet printable acetate then the image transferred onto Gel medium which had been painted onto the plain calico. As I wanted both images to have a slightly worn look I added a grunge border (Jessica Prague’s) before printing. The T shirt transfer material can also be distressed a little if you tear (carefully) rather than cutting the image out and you can add a bit more distress by scraping bits away with your thumb nail. The acetate transfer came out very dark so in future I will remember to brighten the image before printing. Also the more pressure you use to burnish the image the more the ink smudges. The images used are from Art-e-zine
